Ultrasound Applications

An ultrasound scan is a medical test that uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of your body. It’s also known as sonography. Ultrasound scans are safe because they use sound waves or echoes to make an image, instead of radiation. Ultrasound is sound that travels through soft tissue and fluids, but it bounces back, or echoes, off denser surfaces. This is how it creates an image. 

The sonographer holds a transducer, a hand-held device, like a wand, which is placed on the patient's skin. The images are interpreted by radiologists, cardiologists, or other specialists.

 

While Thermography is monitoring the ‘functional’ activity of the body, ultrasound is examining the ‘structures’ of the body. There is no radiation or pain involved with this non-invasive scan. It can be used in a proactive manner but also in following up from abnormal thermography findings to get a detailed 'structural' view of the areas of concern.

 

It is highly beneficial for women with dense breasts and can increase detection from approximately 48% to 97% compared to a mammogram alone. As you know, no breast test is 100% accurate so it is important to consider a multimodal approach.

An Ultrasound can detect problems and provide a view of:

  • Breast Tissue

  • Gallbladder

  • Kidneys

  • Liver

  • Pancreas

  • Thyroid

  • Spleen

  • Carotid Arteries

  • Blood Vessels

Why Thermography and Ultrasound? 


You may ask why would I want to get both screenings? Isn't one enough?

We all know that no breast test can provide 100% accurate results 100% of the  time. Even MRI, PET scans, & x-rays cannot provide 100% accuracy. Thermography is wonderful at offering early detection because of its unique ability to monitor the 'functional' changes of breast tissue but it does not give a 'structural' view. Ultrasound gives the 'structural' view of the breast tissue, suspicious lump, or area of concern without radiation but does not examine the 'function' of the tissue and early stage disease processes like thermography. By monitoring the functional and structural sides of your breast tissue you are undoubtedly increasing your chances of detection. Unfortunately many doctors or insurance companies make it difficult for women to get ultrasound screenings. For this reason we decided to offer ultrasounds as an additional service for our clients in order to make it more accessible and affordable for those who wanted it.
