Breast Ultrasound

  • NO PAIN

  • NO RADIATION

  • NO COMPRESSION

  • REPORT COMPLETED BY RADIOLOGIST

  • HIGHLY BENEFICIAL FOR DENSE / FIBROCYSTIC BREASTS

Ultrasound is highly beneficial for women with dense breasts and can increase detection from approximately 48% to 97% compared to a mammogram alone.

Ultrasound is excellent at determining whether a lump is of cystic nature or a solid mass. However, ultrasound can not always determine what is 'seen' so additional testing may be needed. Ultrasound may detect some cancers not seen on a mammogram but as any other breast screening some cancers may not be detected. Ultrasounds typically cannot visualize micro calcifications which at times can be cancerous.

As you know, no breast test is 100% accurate so it is important to implement a multimodal approach. Only a biopsy can diagnose cancer.

Applications:
  • to evaluate a lump or area of concern

  • to assess unusual nipple discharge

  • to evaluate cases of mastitis or inflammation of the mammary tissues

  • to evaluate breast implants

  • to assess symptoms, such as breast pain, redness, and swelling

  • to assess skin changes, such as discoloration

  • to help monitor existing benign breast lumps

  • to help read the results of other imaging tests, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or mammogram
